Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are crucial to our success in a variety of capacities. They are specially trained to assist
skiers, groom slopes and participate in all aspects of our operation.
We have survived and grown due to the work of volunteers,
fund raising events such as the annual Everett Kircher Memorial
Fundraiser, the generosity of surrounding communities, private contributions and the
Schools, Colleges, and Universities Challenge Mountain works with colleges and universities to train members of their outdoor therapeutic recreation programs to work with their future clientele by teaching them to use adaptive ski equipment and through other programs. We have worked with students from Central Michigan University. Pictured below are students from Ohio University Ski Club who not only raised $1000 for Challenge Mountain but also learned to ski with people who use adaptive ski equipment. These students will aid us in our mission to help build self esteem, confidence, dignity, and self worth for people with physical disabilities, mental impairments, and at risk youth.
Volunteer training dates can be arranged for those who are interested and cannot make scheduled times. Please call the Executive Office at (231)535-2141 for information. It is hard to tell who enjoys it more, the participants or the volunteers!
Participant with youth volunteer Alex Our volunteer programs are designed to aid at risk youth who attend alternative education programs. Youth are extensively trained to manage all aspects of ski hill operations. These youth provide volunteer training and volunteer hours that aid the organization function during weekday events. The youth receive mentoring, training, job skills, work ethics, and receive credit toward their diplomas. This is a program that we are extremely proud to offer and is beneficial to everyone involved. This part of programming is made possible by grants from the Charlevoix County Community Foundation, Bay Harbor Foundation, and Petoskey Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation. |
